Welder's Flash and Discovering Granny's Audiobooks

Flash burns are like sunburn in the eye. They are also called welder's flash or arc eye. A flash burn occurs when you are exposed to bright ultraviolet (UV) light. FLASH BURN INFO

This weekend, while helping my husband weld a bracket onto his four wheeler, I decided to for go the mask and opted for the goggles. Big mistake! WELDER'S FLASH. My eyes got burned. The doctor perscribed dilating drops. My pupils a huge and my eyes are all red and irritated looking. I resemble a tweaked out crackhead.

Everything is blurry and it is hard to read; thank god for the zoom capabilities on my tablet. I am, for the first time, listening to audiobooks. It amazes me how a narrator can either ruin a good book, or make a horrible book enjoyable (I will review the books I have listened to when my eyes get better). I disliked the audio version The Name of the Wind (The Kingkiller Chronicle #1) by Patrick Rothfuss and read by Rupert Degas, but when I read it a couple of years ago in paperback, I loved it. I do find it almost awkward to listen to sex scenes in a book. The way some narrators read those parts makes me giggle.

My daughter has wanted me to read her Secret Garden and I have been putting off due to how lengthy it is. I don't know why I didn't consider an audiobook before now. As much as I enjoyed reading to my children, it will be nice to sit down and actually listen. When I read out loud I tend to not absorb what I am reading.

After three massive strokes my grandmother lost her eyesight. Before her stokes she was an obsessed with books. She hoarded them and had collected enough to pack a 10x8 foot storage room. We went to a local used bookstore and traded them for audiobooks. She passed away right after last Christmas. I am glad I decided to hang on to all of them. There are over 400 titles giving me quite a selection to choose from.  I never realized she read erotic books until yesterday when I opened a tote labeled FAVORITE BOOKS. She has every one of Lora Leigh's Breeds series and quite a few titles by Laurelin Paige. She is probably rolling over in her grave because I found out her secret. She would never have admitted to enjoying these books. She wouldn't even say the word tampon louder then a whisper and turned beet red if she walked past a Victoria ' Secret. I almost didn't believe the books were hers. I thought somehow I had mistakenly brought the wrong tote home from the assisted living she lived in. THEY WERE ALL LABELED WITH HER NAME IN BLACK SHARPIE MARKER! I think it would have been great if I would have known before she was gone. We would have had so much more to gab about.
