My Daughter and Extra Points Explained

I used the mummy emoji because it is only one letter off from mommy.

My daughter has completed two of her extra point challenges in English. My daughter's 6th grade English teacher has given her students the opportunity to start out the next year with a bank of up to 40 extra points which she can use to increase her grades through out the year. Example: If she scores 18/20 on a test, she can pull two points from her bank and increase her score to 20/20. In order to earn these points she must a book that meets the requirement of each challenge. The challenges are: Read a book from a new author (she chose Vreeland by Gabriel Strump), a poetry book, a classic, a bedtime story, a book about middle school,  fantasy book, picture book (she chose Moletown by Torben Khulmann), and a book that was made into a movie. After each book she can either write a report or post a review somewhere on the internet and send the link to her teacher.

I love this idea. It is a wonderful way to keep children/tweens/teens reading over the summer. This challenge has also given my daughter and I a lot more to talk about. She is at the age where teenagers think their parents are stupid, but she is constantly coming to me for advise on what books to pick...suddenly I am not so dumb...LOL.

In my neighborhood there are 6 children, including my daughter, going into sixth grade. At least twice a week one of them are knocking on my door wanting to raid my library. I have collected books since 4th grade and have managed to hang onto almost all of them.

I had one of the boys from my neighborhood knock to day and his request made me laugh, "What is the shortest book you have by a new author?"

I thought about it for a moment, then decided to mess with him and handed him a copy of Great Expectations. The look on his face was priceless. The further I closed the door, the further his jaw dropped. I watched out the window and let him reach the driveway before I took him a copy of Ally-saurus & the First Day of School. He didn't think it was very funny.
