Stone and Silt - Harvey Chute

This is a very good book. I am loving how well the author makes the story come to life with his words. 


Marriage! I want to finish school and, after that, train to be a teacher. Mrs. Trey says that if I keep up with my lettering and arithmetic, I'd be well-suited for that. And I enjoy it when she has me help student in younger grades. Being a teacher would give me a life of choices beyond Fort Yale. Why should I put all that aside and submit myself to being a wife and mother?
